MARLBOROUGH PENGUINS A.S.C.

On Wednesday 16th July 5 swimmers from Penguins swam in the 2008 Open Water Competition that was held in Lake 32 at the Cotwold Water Park. There had been a taster session held on the previous Wednesday when 30 swimmers tested the conditions in atrocious weather around shortened lake circuit. However on the day the weather was much better with a water temperature of 19oC / 66oF. 67 swimmers had entered, 38 female and 29 male aged 12 to 71, with 60 taking part on the evening, 50% of the swimmers being in the Junior age group 12 to 15.

All our swimmers swam in the Juniors race that started at 7.15 after Brian Bewley, ASA South West Region Open Water Secretary, gave the short briefing.

The results were as follows

Girls Race

6th Abbie Moss 23.32.14

10th Ellie Shepherd 26.25.00

11th Lauren Henley 26.59.45

13th Kathleen Parkinson-Hill 29.27.25

Boys Race

12th Theo Tipping 27.54.95

Theo’s sister Beccy Tipping who was swimming for Dauntseys but who also trains at Marlborough Penguins swam in the Senior race and came 5th in the 15+ Women’s race in a time of 29.04.54

All the swimmers swam really well many undertaking open water swimming for the first time.
