MARLBOROUGH COLLEGE POOL

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Sessions will restart on Monday 18th August at 7.00pm.

The College Pool sessions can be even more successful if parents and swimmers will carefully observe the following points. Some are College requirements and others are standards the club expects from swimmers and parents.

Your full co-operation will be much appreciated:

  1. Parents must not park, drop or pick up children by driving on to college property. Please make use of Hyde Lane car park.
  2. ‡ † In future, the only drinks bottles permitted on the poolside must be of a type with a secure screw cap, a sports type bottle. Loose caps in the water pose a serious hazard to swimmers as they may be ingested and cause choking.
  3. Both sessions, Monday and Friday, start at 7.00pm and swimmers should be on poolside ready to swim at that time. Late attendances disrupt the warm up session and late arrivals are not ready to start the training programme.
  4. All invited swimmers are capable of and should be swimming the WHOLE session, eg 1½ hours on Monday and 1 hour on Friday.
  5. In the interest of safety swimmers must advise their lane coach if at any time they need to leave the water or poolside.

Club good practice requirements.

Summer

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

What an excellent season so far for both of our Summer league teams. After three rounds, before we go into the holiday ‘break’, the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams are top of their respective leagues. Alan tells me that the last time the Club had two teams top of their leagues was back in the mid-90s (before some of our current swimmers were born!). Here are some of the highlights from the 3rd round galas:

A Team

Another great result in our home gala, a massive win by 27 points, that now leaves us on top of the league by 80 points. 10 PBs were gained during the gala.

A special mention should be made of the fact that the U 12 girls and U 14 boys did not drop a single point.

Current league standings after three rounds;

Marlborough Penguins

470 points

Wootton Bassett

390 points

Swindon Dolphins ‘C’

331 points

Corsham ‘B’

291 points

The team must now look forward to the final gala on 13th September and make the most of their strong position, hopefully securing promotion back to Division 3.

B Team

A fantastic result for round 3, seeing that we were missing 15 swimmers across the team. We managed to come second by 1 point after a poor start. That still leaves us on top of the league by 63 points. There were 21 PBs from the boys and 10 from the girls during the gala – a superb performance.

A special mention to the 5 swimmers who were brought in at the last minute to help the team – thanks:

Hannah Carter

Emma Todd

Pip Warren

Carolyn Lucas

Oscar Twining

Current league standings after three rounds;

Marlborough Penguins ‘B’

468 points

Malmesbury

405 points

Devizes

369 points

Pewsey & Tidworth

168 points

The last gala for the ‘B’ team is our ‘home’ one on 27th September. We look forward to making that a winning ‘night to remember’ for all the team members who have performed so well so far. Promotion to Division 5 looks adds on!

Once again, great swimming, and to all club members

have a great summer.
